Reporting: Enterprise View Updates



Reporting is one of Maestro's key features, which turns a wide set of its tools and capabilities into a convenient information delivery process.

Maestro financial and analytic reports are initially designed to face users with the different types of tasks and levels of responsibility. 

We have already described some of the reporting features in the articles like Maestro Reports for Cost Analytics and Optimization or Size-based approach to cloud infrastructure analytics, as well as you can find related posts by FinOps and Analytics labels. 

Today, we would like to uncover a couple of new features, that enforce significantly the enterprise-level dimension of Maestro reporting: a set of C-Level infrastructure and costs reports, and the new concept - "Linked accounts" which allows you to build a more effective infrastructure hierarchy within your organization.


Linked Accounts: Improved Accountability

Traditionally, there was the case when one project owned one account in a public cloud. However, once the enterprises and cloud utilization become more complex, the need arose to support a new model, where one project could have several accounts.

Such approach brings better transparency and accountability, and makes large enterprises and complex teams work more structured and effective.

Maestro supported this by introducing the possibility to review information on all accounts belonging to a single project (also may be referred as a business unit or a tenant) in one place, as well as dive deep into the details of the specific account.

C-Level Reports

To facilitate quick reaction on issues, Maestro initially paid much attention to reports aimed at specific resource owners, team leads and tenant managers. However, keeping track of Cloud trends on an enterprise level is an essential component of overall infrastructure wellbeing and performance, as it allows making seeing strategic changes, make long-term decisions and identify focus directions.

Thus, recently, Maestro introduced three new types of enterprise-level reports and analytics that empower infrastructure expenses and utilization review.


Cloud Radar on Dashboard
The Dashboard is an entry point to all the information about your infrastructures in Cloud. 
The new Cloud Radar widget allows reviewing summary cost trends by all clouds you have access to, in one place.  The data includes the monthly totals for the past year and the expenses predictions:



Using the widget, you can track whether overall Cloud expenses meet the expectations and defined limits,  and pro-actively react if the trend goes beyond expectations, or includes unexpected peaks.


Annual Billing Report
The Annual Billing Report is a report including the annual billing summary for all clouds. Similar to the Cloud Radar, it simplifies enterprise costs tracking and billing year closure procedures.




Weekly Instance Analytics Report
This type of report provides regular updates on virtual machines creation, termination and lifetime across all clouds in an enterprise.

This type of statistics allows to identify whether the infrastructure lifecycle goes as expected,  or if additional investigation is needed.

For example, it may be potentially effective to terminate instances that remain stopped for over 2 weeks, or transfer their load from start/stop to run/terminate cycles, for example, via auto scaling.

The relation between created and terminated resources, in its turn, may be used to estimate the infrastructure utilization growth and draw attention to possible processes or loads review.


 

To sum up
The new tools facing enterprise-level cost accountability, transparency and infrastructure lifecycle are a powerful update to the existing ones, as they add more visibility and control on the new level.
